15 May 1998 - Judy Simpson - SIMPSON - I'm trying to find a record of the marriage of Samuel Merrick SIMPSON and Hester PEDDICORD on April 5, 1860 in Clinton, De Witt County, Illinois. Hester had a daughter, Mary Frances SIMPSON (b. Aug. 17, 1862; d. Sept. 18, 1941) and then she had a son Milzor SIMPSON, but there are no dates in the family bible for him, and he and Hester disappeared. 26 Apr 1998 - Judy Simpson - JAMES, PETTICORD, SIMPSON - I am looking for any information on the SIMPSON, PETICORD, and JAMES surnames in DeWitt County. My husband’s g-grandfather, Samuel Merrick Simpson, was married to Hester Peticord in Clinton, Illinois, on April 5, 1860. They had a daughter, Mary Frances Simpson, who was born Aug. 19, 1862. A son, Milzor Simpson, was born in 1863 or 1864, but there are no dates listed for him in the family records, and Hester disappeared from the records at the same time (although her death is not listed). Perhaps she died in childbirth. Samuel then married Evangeline James in Clinton, Illinois, on April 21, 1865. There were three children from that marriage: Frank S. Simpson (b. 1866 approx.); David Manfred Simpson (b. 1869 approx.); and Charles Henry Simpson (b. Dec. 23, 1876). In Charles Simpson’s obituary, it says he was born in Rantoul, Illinois. 18 Apr 1998 - Jan Brustad - FORBES - I am interested in learning about James Forbes, who was in DeWitt County in mid-1850's. I believe they lived in Rutledge Township. This is what I know about this family:

James Forbes was probably born in Ohio. He married (1) and had children Bill, Angus, George, John, Steve, James, Rebecca, and Silence. He married (2) Elizabeth Lash (Ohio or Illinois?) (circa 1857) and they had children Thomas Jefferson, Marion Francis, Joseph, Alex, and John. He died about 1868 and is supposedly buried in DeWitt Cemetery, but his grave is unmarked and unknown to me.

Elizabeth Lash was married (1) to George Moore and had children George Moore and Rozella Moore (Mayburn). After James Forbes died, she married Andy Jackson and had five more boys. She died January 10, 1899, and is buried in DeWitt Cemetery. She has a large headstone (fairly new) marked Elizabeth Jackson. I would like to know who erected this headstone and continues to decorate her grave.

I would be interested in knowing who James Forbes' parents were and where he came from.

My family comes through Thomas Jefferson Forbes, who married Sarah Ann Nixon. They moved to Iowa in late 1800's.

He served in the Civil War in Co. C of the 41st Infantry which was raised in Clinton. Can I believe he lived in Clinton from that? Family legend says a brother went to war with him, so possibly there were more McGowan families in DeWitt. This is the sum total of what I know of Philip so any information would be very much appreciated.
